Jos Muijtjens, born in Maastricht December 28, 1957, played the lead trumpet in the Glenn Miller Orchestra which toured Europe for many years. Jos was always a fan of Big Band music. In the last 25 years he was a member of several big bands and founded a big band of his own, Swing Design, which has enjoyed a 25 year history of music.

Always wanting to play accurate arrangements with some added “show & spice”, Jos gave birth to Dutch Swing Fever, an 18 piece big band. Jos met with several key professional musicians who toured Europe, and he asked them to be a part of his Swing Fever Big Band. With his admiration of the swing sounds, rock and pop music, Jos has stayed true to the sounds of Big Band with some added seasonings! The sounds of the 40’s and 50’s are performed in a unique way with the familiar arrangements you will hear in well-known songs such as In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Jersey Bounce, Stardust, My Way, Love for Sale, Come Fly with Me….and many, many more!!   

Aside from the original classic arrangements, Jos has freshened up the big band sounds by adding more show elements to the stage performance. Two outstanding vocalists, Geralt and Marlou, add excitement and spontaneity as they entertain their audiences with vibrant, dynamic melodies that will rock you, and in an instant, they will change to a smooth ballad which will bring tears to your eyes!

Both instrumentalists and vocalists treat you to a varied repertoire of music and an extraordinary show. The band members have come together for Dutch Swing Fever from the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, and each of them bring their own Big Band experience from their tours with a wide variety of big band music through-out Europe. Several band members toured with the Glenn Miller Band in Europe for many years, and with the Lex van Well’s “Tribute to Tommy Dorsey Band”, as well as with the modern Big Bands such as the German Frank Valdor Orchestra. Many of the band members graduated from the Music Academy of Maastricht.

Geert Keysers is the arranger for one of Europe’s biggest shows:  “Night of the Proms” which tours Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Geert, one of the best and most well-known keyboard players from Europe, joined Dutch Swing Fever, and is writing new arrangements for the band. Together, Geert and Jos discovered the right sound for the new arrangements. Smooth saxophone lines and punchy brass fills are complemented by the necessary attention to the various show-elements.

Dutch Swing Fever commands a broad repertoire of music and differentiates itself from other big bands by the professional, enthusiastic and spontaneous way in which the band members provide a complete show. Dutch Swing Fever has enjoyed much success in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. The band will release their first CD by the end of this year.
