Big Bands evolved in the 1920's in the USA where they enjoyed incredible popularity for many years. Remember the greats like Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Harry James? Because of their great success, German bands emerged such as those of James Last, Max Greger and Bert Kaempfert. You could also discover superior big bands in the Netherlands and the UK such as Willy Schobben, The Skymasters, Ted Heath and Syd Lawrence, to name just a few.Over the years, Big Bands became very popular in the Netherlands, and there were many fine big band players coming from the Netherlands. Today we can thank musicians like Harry Connick, Jr, Brian Setzer and also Dutch Swing Fever for a remarkable “return of the Big Bands”. |
